Thursday TEN 04/21/2011

I'm cheating this week.  I'm making this a Thursday Ten.  Sorry, but if you continue reading you'll see I've written A LOT.  So, it kinda counts as thirteen.  If I break down the paragraphs and number them accordingly!  Eh.  Here you go:

1.  Since we've all been sick the past couple of months, catching one thing or another and then passing it on to each other, I decided to add ginger honey tea to my arsenal.  Shown to help with upper respiratory congestion, sore throats and even indigestion, I figured it couldn't hurt.  I decided to make it one morning after watching a Mad Hungry episode (Lucinda is awesome!)  I used this recipe:  Ginger Honey Tea though I didn't have any fresh ginger (I had bottled grated ginger and was not about to run out and get some, being sick and all).  I also didn't measure the water.  Just boiled enough for my hubby and I to have.  Anyway, it was very, very good.  And my throat did feel better.  BUT WAIT!  The next day we were at Whole Foods and a little jar just on an end-cap I rarely look at happened to catch my eye.  It was from a company called Jayone.  They don't have their website up yet but the jar was similar to this.  With this you can conveniently prepare Ginger Honey Tea anytime, cold OR hot.  I bought it.  I regret not buying more than one because I have a feeling this will be gone very soon.  Not that I think we're all going to continue getting sick, but because I love it that much.  It's very balanced.  Not too spicy or sweet, yet you get both the ginger and honey flavors.  Aaaah, my new nightly tea!  Oh, and it goes well with....

2.  My new favorite cookie by Dancing Deer.  Chocolate Tangerine!  I found this at Whole Foods too.  Same day as the Ginger Honey Tea above.  It caught my eye too!  Funny, I guess being under the weather and a bit unfocused leads me to new discoveries!  Their website doesn't show how it's packaged for retail only for online/phone orders, but like I said I found it at Whole Foods.

3.  I yelled at a woman. An older woman.  Outside our local library.  I know I shouldn't have but..well, let me tell you what happened first.  My son had already gotten out of the car and I was on the other side getting my daughter out while keeping an eye on him.  My boy was dancing, spinning around and right when this woman walked by my kid squinted at the sun (not at the woman).  The woman, who was walking with a limp, I suppose thought my son was looking at her funny so she scowled at him and asked, "What's your problem?"  Well, NOBODY gets away with speaking to ANYONE in my family that way, let alone my kids.  I already had my daughter out and so I approached this woman and asked, "What did you say to my son?"  She said that he looked her funny and I said, "No, he was squinting at the sun".  She smugly said, "Well, I didn't know" offering NO apology so then I (chicken hawk that I am) said, "That's right.  So, next time keep your mouth shut."  I know it was a bit overboard, but who talks to ANY young child that way?  My son thought he did something wrong and came to me and said, "Mommy I was only dancing."  I told him it's okay that some people are just ignorant and should shut their mouths, just as the woman was walking off but still within hearing range.  Not a good example for my kids, I know, but when it comes to them I don't take *bleep* from anyone.  Sorry, kids.  Not one of mommy's best moments.  I am fierce and brutal and it comes out full force when it comes to my family.  It is my strength and weakness.

4.  The past couple of weeks I've had to slow down my workouts because I pulled a muscle on the left side of my abdominal wall while doing shoulder presses.  It bums me out when I can't push myself as much as I'd like.  This is the second time this has happened to me.  The first time it happened I actually went to the doctor and an ultrasound was done.  Thank God nothing was there.  In time it healed but then it happened again!  I think it stems from my last c-section because a few weeks after my daughter was born I had a similar pain.  Then they did an MRI and found nothing.  Anyway, after a couple of weeks of taking it easy and still a little tender I decided to go ahead and get back to my usual routine.  Oddly enough, the pain is slowly subsiding.  I don't know if it's because enough time has elapsed or if because working my abs fixed it but I am absolutely relieved!  Thank God!

5.  We had the opportunity to try some goodies from the Buttermilk Truck.  We had their Red Velvet Chocolate Chip Pancake bites.  It was served with a dollop of Cream Cheese frosting, which was not too sweet, just the way I like it.  Take a look.  It's not a great picture because I wasn't feel all that great and just wanted to eat and attempt to crawl back into bed (that didn't happen):

6. I recently discovered the site I'm an Organizing Junkie. While I like to think I'm fairly organized, this website offered tips and tricks to take my skills even further (I despise clutter!) Anyway, she also has a segment called Menu Plan Monday and invites other bloggers to join in and share their weekly meals.  I've decided to do it since I already plan our meals every week.  It saves us money and several trips to the store.  I'll be sharing recipes when I can as well so keep an eye out!  The site also has printables for menu planning and grocery shopping as well as other useful tools.

7.  Since my son is on vacation I've taken the time to make myself a mini egg white frittata three days this week.  I've been experimenting with flavors and so far my favorite is one that has ground turkey sausage, red peppers and marinated fresh mozzarella balls with a pinch of Italian Herb Seasoning.  I would have tossed it some fresh basil when I pulled it out of the oven but I didn't have any.  Still it was very tasty:

8.  My son is on Spring Break. He and my daughter have been discovering bugs in the backyard. Lucky me.

9.  I made Mini Cupcake Balls, strawberry.  They're just Cake Balls but they're set in mini cupcake cups.  They're much bigger than the regular, single bite ones I've made before.  These were much easier to make than the smaller ones.  Looksee:

10.  The kids and I happened to be at Whole Foods and we walked past handmade marshmallows.  We picked the chocolate flavored ones.  Now, I know these aren't anything new but I've never been interested in trying them.  I mean, it's just a marshmallow.  I could get a bag for a couple of bucks instead of $4.00 but the kids really wanted to try them.  They are delicious (and deeelightfuul).  And they're all gone.  We've been treating ourselves to one a day since this past Monday.  They have a couple of other flavors too.  I think one is coconut.  The kids also asked me to make some.  I may dabble in that over the summer for some fresh marshmallows for s'mores.  In the meantime I think I want to try other flavors from Plush Puffs.

Okay, I done.  Thursday Ten indeed!  Have a wonderful Easter!
