WoD Picture 7/3/2012

I saw the workout from this day and knew I wasn't going to be able to do the burpees.  I've been feeling nauseous (no I'm not pregnant!) and I went in asking if we could replace the burpees with something else.  I was even willing to double the run.  The workout was:

15 min to find 1RM Power Clean & Jerk
--then--
Four rounds for time:
7 Squat Cleans 85% of above
14 Bar Facing Burpees
200m Run
1 minute Rest

He was planning on having me do burpees and just landing in a push up position (which is how I used to do my burpees) since putting pressure on my tummy made me feel like I was going to puke.  Somehow, after spending time on the 1RM (1 rep max) Power Clean & Jerk, we just kept going and he made it a lifting day.  That was fun!  We got a chance to really focus on my form and mistakes I was making while lifting.  In the end I did a 90lb squat clean, a personal record for me.  I couldn't jerk that up though, so my max jerk was 85lbs.  My trainer mentioned I was probably feeling a bit fatigued from the lifting I had already done and I probably would have been able to jerk it if it weren't for that.  That's his story and I'm sticking to it!  Just so you know five pounds is small, but it can make a big difference.

The picture below is of me doing a 75lb clean.  This was after I failed an 85lb clean.  He dropped the weight down to 75lbs, had me try that and then added the weight back on.  I got the 85lb clean up the second time.  I have to learn to really ready myself, both physically and mentally before attempting a lift AND not be scared of the bar landing on my shoulders.  The latter is a hard one for me, but I'll get there.

No, it's not a flattering picture, but look at what I can lift!  So, there!  If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you.
